Mad*Pow Wins For Design Of ESPN Events Wrap Up Website At The 15th Annual Webby Awards
April 15, 2011
PORTSMOUTH, N.H., April 15, 2011
Mad*Pow announced that it was selected as an Honoree in the Event category at the 15th Annual Webby Awards. Mad*Pow was recognized for their work on ESPN Events Wrap Up Web site, espneventwrapups.com. The 15th Annual Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries with fewer than 10 percent of the entries distinguished as an Official Honoree. The Webby Awards are the Internet’s most respected symbol of success.
"If you want to check the pulse of popular culture, look no further than this year's Webby Awards nominees," said David-Michel Davies, Executive Director of The Webby Awards. "Over the past year, the nominees have dominated conversation, entertained us, changed how we work and play, and fueled our imaginations."
ESPN selected Mad*Pow when they needed to revamp their Event Wrap-ups Portal site along with several event microsites. The sites were created to communicate with and engage ESPN’s advertising sponsors. Account Executives at ESPN wanted to create an online experience that would resonate with prospective event sponsors and generate a buzz for the advertisers before, during and after an event. The end result was an exceptional online experience that was steeped in user research and audience understanding. Taking into consideration stakeholder goals, Mad*Pow conducted extensive user interviews, gaining awareness of why sponsors would visit the site and what they wanted to do when they go there.
Emerging with a revolutionary new information architecture, or site structure, Mad*Pow was able to design a high impact site which ESPN sales executives were proud to share with event sponsors. The highly interactive site reflects the brand strength of ESPN in the form of an engaging, modern and accessible experience. Behind all the sizzle and glamour of the site’s aesthetics were flash elements and a fully integrated content management system. Doing the heavy lifting on the development front was long-time Mad*Pow partner, the Atom Group.
“They were delighted with the results, saying that it was leaps and bounds better than previous sites specifically in terms of the “wow” experience and intuitive navigation,” states Will Powley, chief creative officer and founder of Mad*Pow. “These new sites will help the event marketing and sales team retain lucrative relationships with their sponsors and advertisers.”
