Healthcare Experience Design Conference

February 21, 2011

BOSTON, Mass., Feb. 21, 2011

Mad*Pow and Claricode are partnering to host the first-of-its-kind Healthcare Experience Design Conference. The one-day conference will be held on April 11, 2011 at the Fairmont Copley Hotel in Boston, and is designed to inspire and empower thought leaders, students, and working professionals in the fields of healthcare design, usability, and technology development. Conference details, including featured speakers and registration information can be found at http://www.healthcareexperiencedesign.com/.

“In a perfect world, healthcare technology would be developed with painstaking attention to the wants and needs of the humans who interact with it, whether they’re patients, providers, or payers,” states Amy Cueva, founder, Chief Experience Officer, and healthcare principal at Mad*Pow. “In reality, the healthcare field is littered with unused technological ‘solutions.’ If our goal is to optimize the flow of information between all of the players within the healthcare ecosystem, we’re falling short. The purpose of this conference is to get all of us together to explore new ways of doing things—to learn, share, and collaborate with one another.”

Two simultaneous tracks will offer more than 15 sessions for attendees to choose from, with a carefully selected group of well-known industry powerhouses. The morning kicks off with the keynote: “Persuasive Design & Behavioral Change” by Dr. BJ Fogg who has developed highly successful methods that can help people stop smoking, eat healthfully, and exercise regularly.

Attendees can choose from the following sessions:

•    Patient-Centric Design: Creating Experiences that Support, Inform, & Empower
•    Designing for Care: Provider Interfaces and Care Environments
•    Facilitating Engagement: Convenience, Community, and Fun
•    New Models for Healthcare Delivery: Paradigm Shifts and Other Revelations

The list of conference speakers reads like a Who’s Who of patient-centered healthcare and includes Matthew Diamanti, Senior Director of User Experience at Mayo Clinic, Marston Alfred, Founder and Chief Architect at SugarStats, Vincent Matyi, Principal User Experience Architect at U Penn Health Systems, Jerilyn Maclaren-Hall, Experience Design Strategist at MISI, Peter Jones, author of Design for Care, Mary Curran, Senior Director at Cleveland Clinic, Jeroen Raijmakers, Global Creative Director Healthcare at Philips, Tim Kieschnick, Experience Designer at Kaiser Permanente, John Bahl, Head of Member and Consumer Online Strategy at Aetna, Jen McCabe, CEO and Founder of Contagion Health, Aza Raskin, Co-founder and CPO at Massive Health, Trapper Markelz, Head of Product at MeYouHealth, Lisa Nugent, Global Creative Director at Johnson & Johnson, Joanne Fournier, User Experience Designer at HelloHealth, Rick Lee, CEO of Healthrageous, and Alex Fair, CEO of FairCareMD.

This unique gathering of trailblazing pioneers and provocative game-changers will share their insights and experiences with patient-centered design, engagement, mobile technology, social media, gaming, and designing for care. They are passionate about people and about leveraging technology to connect, educate, motivate, and empower them to live healthier lives. Together, they will address some of our greatest challenges and look for answers to some of our most pressing questions. “The goal of the conference,” says Claricode CEO Ken Tubman, “is to get the end user into the driver’s seat during the application design process, so we can design applications that take on some of healthcare’s most difficult barriers and adapt to the user’s workflow, not the other way around.”

Art Swanson, Director of User experience at Allscripts will present closing thoughts and Jamie Heywood, CEO of PatientsLikeMe will be the closing keynote speaker.

More than 250 industry professionals are expected to attend this first-of-its-kind conference. Register today at http://www.healthcareexperiencedesign.com/register/.
